Bipartisan Policy Center: Medicare Reform – A Bipartisan Solution
On December 11, 2023, the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) held an online event to discuss solutions to current and impending financial challenges faced by Medicare. BPC presented proposed federal policy recommendations around enhancing Medicare benefits, increasing competition, and improving program management and financing.

House E&C Hearing: Understanding How AI is Changing Health Care
On November 29, 2023, the U.S. House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Health held a hearing to discuss how to best regulate AI in the healthcare system. Hearing witnesses were representatives from hospitals, HCA and UC San Diego Health, the medical school at Johns Hopkins, medtech company Siemens Healthineers, and consumer digital health company Transcarent.

Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network (HCP LAN) 2023 Summit
On October 30, the HCP LAN hosted its 2023 Summit, which brought together stakeholders from across the health care industry. The goals of the event were to promote action towards value-based care advancement, highlight strategies for multi-stakeholder alignment, and showcase the LAN’s goals.

MedPAC October 2023: Medicare Payment Rates for Clinicians
On October 5, 2023, during the morning session of MedPAC’s October meeting, MedPAC commissioners discussed the main contents of the chapter and potential edits before the report is finalized. Topics discussed included the impact of inflation, volume and service intensity growth, payment rate variation, overvaluation of services, and participation incentives for advanced alternative payment models (A-APMs).

On September 27, 2023, Health Affairs, in partnership with the Physicians Foundation, hosted an online forum highlighting recent research regarding the impact of changes in physician practice integration, consolidation, and ownership on the healthcare system. The three papers review trends in consolidation, the increase in higher-intensity services because of consolidation, and how consolidation impacts provider retention.
